Resources to Stay Healthy This Fall!

And just like that, it’s fall again—the season of stepping on crispy leaves, drinking pumpkin spice beverages, and soaking in the last bits of sunshine. And while The Whole U has whipped up a new list of September events that provide plentiful opportunities to better your physical, mental, and financial health, we wanted to share more wellness resources to boost your wellness efforts throughout the fall season.

From do-at-your-desk downloads to campus flu clinic locations, we’ve got you covered!

Physical Wellbeing

A strong mind combined with the right amount of physical activity and meaningful nutrients results in a happier, healthier you. There are many ways to remind yourself to keep fueling and caring for your body:

UW Yoga Month 2019

  • October is the Yoga Month at UW where we celebrate the art, history, and benefits of yoga. Participating in UW Yoga Month gives you the opportunities to immerse into a new form of exercise while exploring and strengthening the mind. Sign up here to access all Yoga Month’s discounts, events, and more!

Working with Better Posture

  • Whether you stand, sit, or walk during work hours, it is important to pay attention to your posture. Just like how an athlete focuses on their form while performing to prevent injuries, UW employees should also be aware of what is uncomfortable and harmful to their body at work.

Salad Dressings Handout

  • Store-bought dressings can have unnecessary additives, high amounts of sugar and sodium, or an unreasonable price tag. Making personalized dressings can prevent all of the above. Here are eight delicious salad dressings.

Baked Snack Recipes

  • Baking is a much healthier alternative compared to frying. Especially in the middle of the day, cravings for a crunchy snack may kick in. That is why we have a couple healthy baked snack recipes to share with everyone.

Step On Up – Take the Stairs Challenge!

  • With the convenience of elevators and escalators, it may be difficult to just take the stairs. That is why we have created a challenge to encourage you and your work friends to participate and motivate each other to step it up!

Mental Wellbeing

Your brain is more powerful than you think, but with its unimaginable abilities, it also needs plenty of attention. Mental health can determine your overall physical productivity as well as mood and happiness. Here are ways to care for your mental wellbeing:

Guided Meditation at Harborview

  • Want to take a second and breath? Harborview Resilience and Well-being Committee is hosting weekly meditation sessions to lower stress, increase inner-peace and productivity. Check out the full schedule and details here.

Stress-Free Zone

Fall Yoga Series at the UW Tower

  • Whether you want to try something new or work on your yoga, join The Whole U for a 10-week morning yoga series! Give your body and mind a chance to talk through yoga. Check out pricing and schedule details here.

Fostering Community

Humans are social-beings. The presence of company and a sense of belonging can propel a person to perform and live their best versions of themselves. Explore these community-building resources to build a stronger bridge between yourself and the people around you:

Whole U WOW Cards

  • Do you sometimes forget to tell your coworkers how much they mean to you? The Whole U WOW Cards are a fun, easy way to spread kindness and compassion within the workplace. View here to access these cards!

The Whole U 30-Day Kindness Challenge

  • Being kind to others is important, but being kind to yourself is as equally as important. Kindness is contagious, so by starting this challenge, it is so much easier to spread happiness and foster community within your office.

Volunteering at the UW Pantry

  • There are more hungry Huskies than you think. However, by helping out at the UW Pantry or donating non-perishable goods, we can have a healthier, closer-knit UW community.

Whole U Being Active Facebook Group

UW Flu Shots Clinic Schedule

This fall, combat flu season by getting your flu shot at the convenience of your own schedule on campus. There are over 15 clinics through the months of September, October, and November hosted by The Whole U. All UW faculty, staff, and students may get their flu shot at the UW flu shot clinics. Dependents between ages 10-17 can attend a flu shot clinic with a parent or guardian (who must also sign the claim/consent form). Dependents aged under should see their health care provider.

No appointment is necessary for any of our clinics, but be sure to bring your insurance card (if applicable) and photo ID. For information on accepted insurance providers and the option to pay out of pocket, visit the Frequently Asked Questions below.

Note: Faculty and staff enrolled in UW-provided PEBB health plans (Uniform Medical and Kaiser), plus graduate students enrolled in the Graduate Appointee Insurance Program (GAIP), can obtain a free annual flu shot as allowed under the plans’ preventive care coverage.

The clinics are hosted at a variety of locations, times, and dates so that you can find the clinic closest to you.
