Join The Whole U for a month of collaborative events anchored by UW Fitness Day on May 9 along with specific UW Nurse appreciation events, informative speaker series, and more. UW Nurses Week Speaker Series

Regulating your nervous system with Sam Himelstein

Monday, May 8

2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

In this dynamic session on Monday, May 8, thought leader and psychologist, Dr. Himelstein will share his personal and professional experience working with incarcerated and high-risk youth. Dr. Himelstein will explore from a trauma informed approach, strategies to regulate your nervous system when the unexpected happens.

Importance of advocacy, policy and politics to the nursing profession with Darcy Jaffe

At this virtual event on Tuesday, May 9, you will get an inside look at how the Washington State Hospital Association advocates for nurses and how important it is to use your unique voice for empowerment. This session will be an empowering hour, shedding light on how we can further progress together through advocacy with one of UW Medicine’s very own.

Does self-compassion really work? with Kristin Neff

In this incredible session featuring Dr. Kristin Neff, international subject matter expert and leading researcher in self compassion, we will dive into not only what self-compassion is, but why and how it makes a difference, while also exploring the new realm of what Dr. Neff calls, “fierce self-compassion”.


UW Nurses Week Self-Care Fairs

Monday, May 8 & Wednesday, May 10|

Wednesday: UWMC Montlake, Plaza Cafe Rooms

This fair is a one-stop shop to practice and engage in personal well-being. There will be a variety of stations and unique handouts to bring more calm and care into your day. Drop-in when you have some free time, before or after a shift, or on a break.

UW Fitness Day is a one-of-a-kind, campus-wide workout celebrating the many ways we move. We will exercise as a group, led by UW athletic coaches and our amazing fitness partners. You and your teammates can look forward to movement including an exercise band workout, a lower body series, dance, cardio segments and yoga.

2023 Walk to End Bladder Cancer

Walk as a team to raise funds for the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN), the only national advocacy organization devoted to advancing bladder cancer research and supporting those impacted by the disease. By making a donation to our team, you will be helping BCAN promote bladder cancer research, education and support programs – but, most importantly, to save lives.
