As summer winds down, we’re gearing up for an exciting lineup of September events! The Whole U is thrilled to introduce a series of wellness-focused activities designed to inspire and engage the entire UW community.


Daily 15 minute movement break

Every Monday – Friday
11 – 11:15 a.m.
Virtual

The Whole U’s Daily Movement Break, which began in remote work in 2020, is way to connect virtually and take a few minutes to informally move together and connect! Whether it’s a yoga, fitness and strength, or guided dance break, each day offers something a little different. All are welcome to join for a fun and light movement break!


Virtual weight training class with Lauren Updyke

Every Tuesday & Thursday
6:15 – 6:45 a.m. & 7:15 – 7:45 a.m.
Virtual

Make time for training with weights and join Lauren Updyke for a 30 minute intermediate class each Tuesday and Thursday at 6:15 a.m. on Zoom. All you need is two sets of weights (at least 5lb – 25lb range) and a chair! This class will include total body and focus on both large and small muscle groups, and will finish with core and stretching.


A vibrant assortment of fresh fruits, including sliced oranges, grapefruit, kiwis, berries, and a halved pineapple filled with more mixed berries.

Demystifying Fruits and Vegetables: Nutrition Myths & Facts with Anna Fogel, MPH and RDN

This engaging session will provide clarity on the different types of produce, their unique benefits, and debunk common misconceptions about health and diet when it comes to fruits and vegetables. During this session, you will; explore the nutritional value of various fruits and vegetables, understand the importance of consuming a diverse range of fruits and vegetables in your diet, debunk common myths and misnomers surrounding fruits, vegetables and their role in a healthy diet and gain practical tips on incorporating more produce into your daily meals in simple and delicious ways.


Restorative Yoga Flow
September 11, Noon – 1 p.m.
Slyvan Grove

Enjoy a midday yoga class in Sylvan Grove on Thursday, August 1 with Pranify Yoga. Relax and feel the breeze and connect with the earth as our instructor guides you through a revitalizing experience that is suitable for everyone, regardless of their yoga expertise. Remember to bring a yoga mat or towel and a water bottle.

Form & Interval Run / Walk clinic
September 17, 5:15 – 6 p.m.

Calling all walkers, joggers and runners of every level to enjoy an in-person clinic with running coach Aaliyah Earvin. Coach Aaliyah worked in the fitness industry for 12 years before becoming a certified running coach. In this clinic you will sharpen your walking and running skills as we practice drills for your upcoming race, personal growth or fitness. Walkers and runners will learn movement that can be added to their current routine. After a warm-up, we will break down the drills and finish with a cool-down. All levels are welcome.

In this virtual session, Dr. Harrast will offer an inside look at safety considerations for the Seattle Marathon, highlighting the unique efforts of the UW Medicine medical team. He will also share the joy of running from his unique perspective as an athlete. Dr. Harrast is an accomplished competitive endurance athlete training for and racing in triathlons and marathons.


Shift Work and Sleep: Strategies for Restful Nights with Dr. Catherine McCall, MD
September 27, Noon – 1:00 p.m.

In a world where non-traditional work hours are becoming increasingly common, understanding the impact of shift work on sleep is essential. This engaging session is designed to help you navigate the unique challenges of maintaining healthy sleep patterns while managing irregular work hours.
