This April, the University of Washington community embraced financial education through The Whole U’s Financial Literacy Month. More than 2,500 UW faculty and staff tuned into a series of high impact events and a thriving online community. Financial Literacy Month delivered empowerment, education and practical tools campus‑wide.

A Month of Meaningful Engagement

Each week centered on a specific financial theme, providing targeted resources and live events to empower participants in every stage of their financial journey.

Week 1: Budgeting and Saving
Week 2: Credit and Loans
Week 3: Retirement Planning
Week 4: Navigating Life’s Financial Transitions and Investing

Each week built upon the last, offering participants a comprehensive financial toolkit by the end of the month. Whether attendees joined for one session or immersed themselves in the entire program, the focus on actionable steps and practical knowledge ensured everyone could take something meaningful away.

Attendees shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, highlighting the clarity and depth of the sessions. Laurie B. remarked,

“The presenter was clear, concise, and direct. No hyperbole, no cute anecdotes muddying the waters, no talking-down. Beautifully presented. I finally understood every concept discussed that I’ve been trying to understand for years.” While she noted a desire for recordings, she emphasized that one seminar in particular stood out as uniquely impactful.

Another attendee, Donna P., expressed her surprise at how engaging the sessions were, sharing,

“I anticipated a very dry presentation but was pleasantly surprised. The presentation was engaging, interactive, and provided some great information. I was very surprised when they were wrapping up their presentation because it didn’t feel like it had been an hour.”

Financial Literacy Month by the Numbers

In addition to the educational seminars, program participants received weekly emails and participated in The Whole U’s MS Team’s page for community, adding another dimension of connectivity. Here, participants shared tips and supported one another in their financial wellness journeys.

Combined, these efforts showcase the overwhelming enthusiasm and commitment from our community to grow financial knowledge. In total, thousands of UW faculty and staff participated in events, connected with experts and walked away with new tools and perspectives.

– 2,346 participants registered for educational webinars.
– 1,100 subscribers followed along through weekly emails.
– 550 active members in the The Whole U Community on MS Teams tuned into weekly prompts to share strategies and successes.
– 5,214 views on educational articles for theme of the week
