CIWA-Whole U Tai Chi and Chinese travel language classes
In partnership with the Confucius institute we are offering free Tai Chi classes and Chinese language courses this winter.
Tai Chi 6-class series
Tai Chi is an ideal aerobic exercise for any age that can help maintain spine health and increases bone density. It is beneficial to the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, and digestive systems, while also improving balance and the circulation of chi, an energy force that underlies traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts. These classes will help improve skills of self-centering, body relaxation, and slow breathing while practicing form movements, while increasing flexibility, leg strength, coordination, and balance. Classes start January 18. Choose between one of the two sessions:
- Tai Chi Chen Style, which covers Chen Style Tai Chi Silk Reeling and Qigong warm-ups (noon to 1:00 pm). Register here.
- Tai Chi Yang Style, which gives in-depth, step-by-step instruction on the 24 form movements and Qigong warm-ups (1:00 to 2:00 pm). Register here.
Chinese travel language series 8- class series
This 8-week course is designed for non-Chinese speakers who need help communicating while traveling in China. By the end of the course, you will be able to master the basic vocabularies for travelling in China, develop Mandarin (Putonghua) listening and speaking skills in order to understand common topics related to travelling in China, and gain familiarity with Chinese culture.
Classes start January 16 and meet every Tuesday for 60 minutes in the HUB. Depending on your familiarity with the Chinese language, you can register for either level 1 or 2:
- Register here for Level 1
- Register here for Level 2
