National Nutrition Month

National Nutrition Month

Each March, The Whole U celebrates National Nutrition Month, exploring how food shapes our health, identity and community. Together, UW faculty, staff and students learn how food can fuel well-being, support sustainability and strengthen connection across our campuses.

This month-long program is part of The Whole U’s ongoing commitment to helping the UW community make informed, balanced and joyful choices around nutrition.

Stay tuned for 2026 event details and registration.

2025 — Food Connects Us

In 2025, The Whole U invited the UW community to celebrate how food brings us together across cultures, kitchens and conversations. The Food Connects Us theme focused on both personal wellness and the broader impact of food systems, encouraging participants to explore, experiment, and engage through recipes, webinars and weekly articles.

Program Highlights:

National Nutrition Month Bingo Challenge: Participants completed a Bingo board as a fun and interactive way to engage.

Live & Recorded Cooking Classes:

Lettuce Talk Savings in the Kitchen — Tips for grocery budgeting and affordable meal prep.

Protein Cooking with Chef Eliot — Techniques for adding flavor and variety to high-protein meals.

Demystifying Fruits and Vegetables: Nutrition Myths & FactsSeparate fact from fiction about fruits and vegetables

UW Community Engagement: Faculty and staff shared recipes and reflections through The Whole U’s online community and Microsoft Teams channel, celebrating how cooking and connection go hand in hand.

National Nutrition Month over the years

In past years, we’ve hosted department and team potluck challenges, run month-long fruit and vegetable challenges and explored food systems and nutrients. Download one of our prior challenge resources:

Throughout, we’ve emphasized sustainable eating practices, spotlighting how our choices influence both individual health and environmental well-being.

Built on friendly competition, community connection and small daily actions, National Nutrition Month has established a rich tradition of food, learning and shared wellness across UW.

Why nutrition matters

Nutrition is the foundation of energy, focus and overall well-being. It fuels our bodies, supports mental clarity and connects us to culture, sustainability and each other. Visit our Eating Well resource hub for recipes and UW expert nutritional guidance.

Each March, National Nutrition Month reminds us to slow down, explore and celebrate the simple joy of eating well together.
