Dance Fitness class with Dalya Perez

Noon to 1:00 p.m. – click here to join now via Zoom

Reinvigorate your body and mind with a range of dance and workout styles from bootcamp-style jumping jacks and squats to salsa, hip-hop, and meringue. The class is high-energy, and low-pressure. All are welcome, no equipment needed. In order for the audio to be fantastic on the viewer end, Dalya does a Screen Share and Audio/Share. This means initially you see her playlist and not her. Click “swap shared screen with video” to see her dance. You’ll need to be in full screen to see this option.

Dalya Perez, MEd, is a former PhD student in Higher Education Leadership at the University of Washington and former Brotherhood Initiative Graduate Staff Assistant. Her work outside of building community at her weekly dance class broadly emphasizes issues of access, recruitment and retention of students of color within higher education. Dalya has moved on to her new role as a Program Manager for Diversity and Inclusion at Microsoft but continues to lead her weekly dance classes to the greater community! Zumba with Karen Cornelio

5:30 to 6:30 p.m. – click here to pre-register via Zoom ahead of class

Zumba takes the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and world rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Zumba is a total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class. You’ll need some room to get down, supportive shoes, water nearby, and a towel.

Karen has been a licensed Zumba Instructor since 2013 and with UW Recreation at IMA since 2016. She also has a career as an engineering consultant, so virtual fitness is strangely familiar for her. She is crazy about music from all over the world and loves to take you on a trip to as many countries as possible through music and movement. While the choreos are easy to master, there are layers for additional intensity and progressions – this is a class made just for you and your new home dance studio.

The passcode is embedded in the Invitation email’s meeting URL, which you should get right after registering. If you have a problem, you should be able to follow these short links above and re-register and get the invitation email again. You should be able to join and leave the meeting at will, so long as you are registered, and logged in to Zoom somehow (usually your email address or UW one).

This is so amazing–thank you for putting this content together and making it available online!! I enjoyed the Zumba (or should it be called “Zoomba”?) class this afternoon with Dalya; at one point I saw 81 people participating, with at least 28 videos going all at once! I felt so connected at a time when I am sure everyone has a little cabin fever! One ask I have is that you make this content available to share with friends and family who don’t have a UW netID.

Thank you again for giving people the connection and exercise we need and crave!

Danny, thank you so much for the yoga session yesterday. It was just what I needed to release some of my tension from this difficult time. It really made me feel that the UW is trying hard to take care of its employees.
